UCI mountain bike world cup 2022

In this post, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.

The Mountain Bike World Cup comes back this year with an amazing calendar.

A new year has arrived and while summer may seem far away, the World Cup season is fast approaching.

In fact, the first race of 2022 is already less than three months away.

Here’s your look at the full schedule for the 2022 World Cup downhill and cross-country season.

After a reduced 2020 calendar and a generally normal 2021, the UCI is aiming high for 2022.

There are more events and new venues, as well as returning classics.

Petropolis, Brazil, is set to make its World Cup debut with an XCO and XCC round in early April.

It will be the first World Cup held in Brazil and the first international mountain bike race since the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

What is the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup?

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is the most important Mountain Bike event of the year.

The principle is simple.

There are several venues between March and September and the best riders accumulate points. At the end of the season (around mid-September), the rider who ranks 1st at the overall ranking wins the World cup.

So it’s basically like any major sport, there are venues on a monthly basis and the riders get points depending on their positions in each venue.

In 2020 and 2021, the Covid-19 crisis impacted a lot the UCI MTB World Cup with several venues canceled.

There are 3 disciplines covered in the MTB World Cup:

  • Downhill (DHI)
  • Cross-Country (XCO)
  • Cross-Country Short Track (XCC)

In 2022, we will have 8 Downhill venues and 9 XCO and XCC venues. 🔥

When does the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup start?

The MTB WC season doesn’t start at the same time depending on the discipline.

Indeed, the downhill world cup starts in march in Lourdes, France. (26th – 27th March 2022)

Whereas, the Cross-Country and Short Track both start at the same time in Brazil on the 9th and 10th April 2022, as the riders are usually the same for XCO and XCC.
